Mom's Stuffed Cabbage Recipe

My Mom's famous recipe that in one quick sniff can
beckon me and my sisters right to her stove!
A photo of a few of the ingredients.
Here is the list of all the goodies you will need...
2 lbs ground sirloin
4-5 lb head of cabbage
2 eggs
juice of 1 lemon
3 cans of tomato sauce
1 cup apple sauce
2 tbsp sugar
1 cup uncooked rice
salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder
Core and boil the cabbage for about 40 minutes to pre-cook the leaves.  Then remove from boiling water and put in an ice bath.  Begin peeling the leaves and cutting the spines out.

Season the beef :
Mix the eggs, 1 tbsp each of garlic powder, salt and onion powder and rice in the beef.

Stuff the leaves :
Roll about a golf ball size of the meat mixture into the leaves and wrap like a burrito (Yes, my first job at 15 was at Taco Bell and I assume everyone knows how to fold a burrito- sorry for the assumption ;)
Add the "Stuffed Cabbage" to the seasoned sweat and sour sauce.

Sweet and Sour Sauce :
3 cans tomato sauce
juice of 1 lemon
1 cup apple sauce
1 tbsp each of garlic powder, onion powder and salt.  Add a dash of pepper.
2 tbsp sugar
Simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours.
Serve with Challah, just like my Mama!
