My neighbor gave me a delicious slice of cinnamon bread and then brought me an icky looking bag or glop. She explained the instructions to me as I gawked in disgust. I tended to the bag as required and made my bread today- it was PERFECT!

oh wow, I LOVE this friendship bread. Here in Holland (where there are no amish, since they all moved out to the USA) we call this glop 'Herman'. Don't ask me why.... maybe it's easier to feed something that has a name? *lol*
ReplyDeleteI used to get this all the time when I was a kid, but somehow it got extinct or something? I'm looking on making a starter for this myself.. wish me luck, hehe..
greetings from the netherlands!
wow...haven't seen this in years! My mom and her friend used to make it all the time. Looks delish!
ReplyDeleteYum!
ReplyDeleteAmish Friendship Bread must have started back up everywhere recently. My bag of glop is sitting on the counter at home. LOL! I hadn't even though about it in years until a friend gave me some starter a week or so ago. LOVE this stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had something similar in Texas when I was little called friendship cake and the starter was the liquid from fermented peaches and sugar I think. I think it was just a way for we Baptist to get a little tipsy without going to the liquor store. :-)
